When a hobby turns into a business...
I've been a seamstress since I could first reach the pedals of my mother's sewing machine. After taking lessons from a professional seamstress while I was in high school I was hooked - I made most of my own clothes by the time I was 16 and I haven't looked back. My idea of heaven on earth is finding an unexplored fabric store - I can spend hours perusing the aisles and daydreaming about what I can create.
I grew up in the 1970s and my idols were Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Nancy and Anne Wilson of Heart, and any other female rockers with a boho flair. Mostly I just loved their clothing - bell bottom pants, bright colors and those COATS! I dreamt about those dreamy coats with fur colors and cuffs but I could never save enough money to buy one for myself. Sewing one never ever occurred to me - until now.
It started with a bucket list. I've always wanted to be in the NYC Easter Parade, held every year on Easter Sunday on Fifth Avenue. I've followed Instagram and TikTok to get inspiration from all the fabulous outfits and crazy hats that artists make each year and promised myself that one day I'd be in that parade. Some day.
Well 2025 was the year - and not only did I make myself an outfit and a hat, I made them for each of my 5 friends who came along with me! And what could be better than my version of those boho coats! When we turned the corner onto 5th Avenue on Easter Sunday, we were swarmed by photographers asking us to pose, tourists requesting to take our pictures and honestly, it was a bit overwhelming. My coats were a huge hit!
If I'd brought a dozen with me I'd have been able to sell them in 15 minutes. Everyone was asking where they could buy one, did I have a website, do I take custom orders? I had to keep telling people no, I'm sorry - these are one of a kind and I just made them to have fun with my friends. And then....a woman who said she was an instructor at a well known art school asked me if I was the creator of the coats. I took a deep breath and was ready for a scathing critique - my insecurities started to surface. To my surprise she asked if she could photograph the coats up close and I said of course she could. Her comments? "I'm really impressed with your attention to detail - these are really fabulous." Be still my heart! And THAT is how I came home from NYC and decided to create my own line of funky Boho coats and sell them to the public. How could I not share them with the world? So, how can you get one?

Where would I be without my friends? Can't wait for next year's NYC Easter Parade!
Each one of my Boho Hippie coats are made one at a time in my home studio in Wickford, Rhode Island. All fabrics and trims are sourced from small women-owned and run businesses in India and linings are 100% pre-washed cottons. Because there is so much trim work, along with fabulous fake furs, all coats need to be dry cleaned (you CAN spot clean with Woolite if you spill something onto the coat). Each coat has multiple rows of trims - grosgrain, satin, rhinestone, velvet, sequined, embroidered, mirrored - both on the sleeves and along the bottom. Most have fur trim on both the sleeves and along the hem. They come in 3 lengths - just to the waist, right below the knee, and to the ankle. If you see a coat and love it, buy it. I won't be making another like it. No two coats are alike - I promise! Better yet, contact me and let's work together to make something fabulous just for you!
I grew up in the 1970s and always daydreamed of being a Goddess Rockstar - and for me the first step was always going to be to have a crazy Boho hippie coat so I could look the part. Unfortunately I didn't have the budget for one so that dream never came true. But now YOU can be the Goddess in your own story in one of my beautiful coats. And yes, now I have several of my own coats and when people stop me to ask where I got it, I'm proud to say "I make them myself - I'm a Goddess Rockstar just like I always dreamed I'd be!" (minus the musical talent).
